Dr. Joanna Staśkiewicz,
studied Social Sciences at the Carl von Ossietzky
University Oldenburg
and received her PhD from the Faculty of Cultural Studies at
the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder).
Among other things, she was a Visiting Scholar
(DAAD postdoctoral
fellowship) at Tulane University in New Orleans and held
various teaching
positions, most recently at the Institute for Theater and Media
Studies at the University of Vienna. She is currently
working on her DFG research project Queering
Gender, Desire, and Local
Myths in (Neo-)Burlesque. A Comparative Analysis of
(Neo-)Burlesque Scenes in
New Orleans, Berlin and Warsaw at the Institute for Arts
and Media at the
University of Potsdam. Associate member of the research group
Queery/ing Popular
Culture at the University of Siegen. In research she is
fascinated by everything "extraordinary" with a particular
fondess for burlesque and clowning. Her dream is to establish a
center for research into the "beautiful dark and lower arts".
Beyond that she is also in love with New Orleans, where she
will be teaching and researching voodoo as a Fulbright Scholar
at the Tulane Universty from August to December 2024.
